Founded in 1982, the Singapore Bangladesh Society is an association of the Bangladeshi community living and working in Singapore. The society serves as a platform to promote and enhance community activities, fostering good relationships among Bangladeshi and Singaporean communities. The society is a membership-based association. The membership of the Society is open to all Bangladeshis, Singaporeans, and Residents in Singapore, irrespective of race, religion, sex, and creed. Members shall be at least eighteen years of age. The association offers Ordinary, Associate, Honorary, and Life Membership. The High Commissioner of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh in Singapore acts as the Chief Adviser of the Society.
Objectives of the Singapore Bangladesh Society:
- to promote mutual understanding and friendship between the people of Singapore and Bangladesh.
- to promote, develop, and present Bangladesh and Singaporean culture and tradition among its members.
- to promote social, cultural, recreational, and welfare activities among the members and their families and the broader Community.
- to encourage and maintain brotherly and cordial relations with all communities in Singapore.
- to hold the celebrations of the occasions of national importance in Bangladesh and Singapore.
- to undertake any other socio-cultural welfare activities which are of interest to Bangladesh & Singapore.
- to cooperate with any organization whose objectives are similar to the Society’s.
Membership
Singapore Bangladesh Society offers the following memberships, open to all Bangladeshis, Singaporeans, and Residents in Singapore, irrespective of race, religion, sex, and creed. Members shall be at least eighteen years of age. Only ordinary members and life members above 21 years of age have the right to vote and to hold office in the Society.
- Ordinary Member: Singaporeans and Permanent Residents holding Bangladeshi passports and Employment Pass holders holding Bangladeshi passports are eligible for ordinary membership.
- Associate Member: Other Bangladeshis and non-Singaporeans residing in Singapore.
- Honorary Member: The honorary membership may be conferred upon deserving persons, to be decided by the Council.
- Life Member: Any ordinary member can apply for a life membership by paying $200 once
- Life Associate Member: Any associate member can apply for a life associate membership by paying a $200 one-time fee
