Bangladeshi American Police Association (BAPA) is a professional association of police officers of Bangladeshi origin working in New York City and other police departments. It was founded in 2015 as a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization. The association is primarily a networking group representing itself as a collective voice of the nation’s Bangladeshi American Police Officers. As a not-for-profit, secular, democratic organization, Bangladeshi American Police Association ‘Cherish DIVERSITY, Seek UNITY, Protect LIFE.’
The mission of the Bangladeshi American Police Association (BAPA) is to foster relationships through camaraderie and esprit de corps among Law Enforcement Officers of Bangladeshi heritage and to foster relationships of goodwill through community outreach. The association also helps and encourages qualified Bangladeshi Americans to join the NYPD and other law enforcement agencies. By sharing their collective experiences, BAPA strives to uplift fellow officers and foster a more inclusive society.
According to an estimate, the Bangladeshi American Police Association has approximately 2,400 members, including 1,500 school and traffic agents and 900 police officers, detectives, and senior officers.
BAPA Activities
- Organize annual picnics for members and family
- Organize annual dinner events
- Organize sporting events
- Monthly/quarterly BAPA membership meeting
- Organize the Police Department’s community outreach
- Organize recruitment drives among the Bangladeshi community
- Liason with various NYPD community organizations (Deshi, Muslim, etc.)
BAPA works to
- Raise awareness for the specific social cause
- Organize recruitment drives
- Assist and advise in getting city services
- Be a conduit for PD and other city agencies for the community
- Be a positive role model and mentor to Bangladeshi youths, etc.
