Bachar Lorai, a grassroots social impact organization started in 2020, aims to empower Bangladeshis globally. The organization was initiated by the Canadian-Bangladeshi community. Based in Canada, the USA, Bangladesh, and the United Kingdom, Bachar Lorai aims to create a world where every Bangladeshi can access the resources and opportunities they need to thrive. The organization seeks to empower Bangladeshis worldwide through community building, policy research, and signature initiatives.

Bachar Lorai (বাচার লড়াই) means Fight to Survive in Bangla.

Activities:

  • Community Building: Host social events, organize youth workshops, and participate in UN-sponsored forums to establish networks, facilitate knowledge exchange, and unite social impact leaders.
  • Policy Research: Conduct research analysis in the non-profit sector to advocate for better outcomes, which can be communicated through publications and policy briefs.
  • Signature Initiatives: Collaborate with local organizations to promote sustainable development goals by creating cultural products, developing fellows, and delivering humanitarian assistance.

Bachar Lorai aims to promote several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the UN in its activities:

Programs

The organization runs various programs to fulfill its mission.

Welfare-related programs:

  • Cultural Ventures: sell products that showcase Bangladeshi culture and contribute to social good.
  • Global Fellowship: annually, develop ten youth leaders who aspire to make a global impact.
  • Humanitarian Aid: collaborate with local partners to implement four aid projects in Bangladesh each year.

Community-related programs:

  • Impact Socials: journey across the world’s largest cities, celebrating and connecting change-makers through various networking programs.
  • Youth Workshops: host three workshops and boot camps to educate youth about civic issues and develop professional skills.
  • U.N. Advocacy: host events and participate in UN-sponsored forums to inform about global issues, showcase work, and exchange knowledge.

Research-related programs:

  • Impact Ink: publish six articles featuring influential experts and insights for the non-profit, philanthropy, and social impact sectors.
  • Policy Briefs: publish an annual briefing that brings together graduate students from top universities to work on a cross-cutting social problem.
  • Policy Synopsis: prepare four short notes evaluating the impact and sharing lessons learned from humanitarian aid projects.
