Founded in 2023 in the UK, the Global Jalalabad Association (GJA) is an organization for the Bangladeshi community living abroad from the Jalalabad region of Bangladesh. Founded in the United Kingdom, GJA has branch organizations in various locations. The association aims to unite all the people of Jalalabad living abroad under one umbrella.
Under the slogan ‘Bangladesh is my home, Sylhet is my province,’ the association serves as a pressure group, advocating for Sylhet to be elevated to a province of Bangladesh, an upgrade from a division to a province.
The Global Jalalabad Association (GJA) establishes various executive committees, some of which are locally elected and others are selected. Additionally, the GJA communicates and coordinates with local organizations related to Jalalabad or Sylhet that are spread throughout the world.
Activities
- Network with people of Sylhet who are scattered in various countries outside of Bangladesh
- Build a global platform to unite Sylhet people
- Ensure the contribution of the Sylhet diaspora in Bangladesh’s economy
- Ensure Sylhet receives the appropriate attention and resource allocation in Bangladesh, etc.
