Jalalabad, a colloquial name for parts of greater Sylhet, is known for its tea gardens, natural gas reserves, and agriculture. It is home to the Shrine of Hazrat Shah Jalal and has a rich cultural heritage, including Sylheti language, music, dance, and cuisine.
