Sacramento Area Bangladeshi-American Association (SABAA) is a not-for-profit organization created by the Bangladeshi-American community living in the greater Sacramento Area of California, USA, to serve the people of Bangladeshi origin and promote and preserve the heritage of Bangladesh. SABAA aims to strengthen the Bangladeshi community to be active, responsible, successful, and involved citizens at every level of Bangladeshi and US socio-political activities.

The mission of the Sacramento Area Bangladeshi-American Association (SABAA) is to empower the Bangladeshi-American community in Sacramento by fostering cultural heritage, providing educational resources, and offering social and disaster relief support.

The Mission of the SABAA is to:

  • Organize Bangladeshi cultural events, provide educational resources, and connect with other Bangladeshi and US organizations.
  • Assist young generations with careers and newcomers with immigration, while also offering social support during difficult times.
  • Celebrate Bangladeshi and US national days, organize seminars, youth events, and social gatherings.
  • Raise funds, donate goods, and offer volunteer and medical assistance to individuals, communities, and groups in the USA and Bangladesh during natural disasters such as floods, hurricanes, cold weather, famines, and geopolitical crises.

SABAA Activities include:

  • Cultural:
    • Organize and celebrate Bangladeshi religious, cultural, and national events, such as Eid festivals, Ramadan, Ekushe, and Bangladesh Independence Day.
  • Educational:
    • Provide educational and training resources about Bangladesh’s history, language, arts, literature, culture, and heritage.
    • Help and guide the young generations in building their careers and development.
    • Organize meetings and discussions about immigration, health, and medical guidance.
  • Community Support:
    • Help and guide newcomers from Bangladesh with immigration and settling into society.
    • Provide social support and services during illness and death in families.
    • Assist the community during their need, such as food drives, clothing drives, disaster relief, etc.
    • Liaise with US politicians on community-related issues.
  • Social:
    • Arrange social gatherings like sports events, camping trips, picnics, etc.
    • Encourage community members to participate in US elections.
    • Encourage and support individuals or groups in organizing community activities.
    • Create a network with other Bangladeshi organizations.
  • Disaster Relief:
    • Raise funds, donate goods, and provide volunteers and medical services to help individuals or groups in the USA and Bangladesh during disasters.

 Membership:

Any person of Bangladeshi origin living in the Greater Sacramento Area is eligible to be a General Member. To be eligible to vote, General Members must be on the Active Membership List at least two weeks before an election. The Executive Committee may offer Guest Membership to a person who does not have origin in Bangladesh. Guest Members do not have voting rights.
