The Bangladesh Australia Association Canberra, Inc. (BAAC) is an integral part of the Canberra multicultural community, representing Canberrans of Bangladeshi origin. For more than two decades, the Association has been a strong participant in Canberra’s multicultural life and has actively promoted cultural diversity and harmony in the community.
The Association’s annual calendar includes celebrations of Bangladeshi national holidays, picnics, barbeques, and other social gatherings. In addition to its regular event schedule, the Association sponsors the Bangla Language and Cultural School and Bangla Radio. Moreover, it leverages its resources and expertise to organize fundraising activities and collect donations to support critical causes, such as providing aid to flood and natural disaster victims in Bangladesh and enhancing education and healthcare facilities in the country.
Bangladesh Australia Association Canberra is a not-for-profit organization funded mainly through yearly membership subscriptions and occasional grants from the ACT Government. Administrative responsibility for the Association is rotated among community members on a financial year basis.
Key objectives:
- Organize community activities for Bangladeshis in the ACT and the surrounding region and assist Bangladeshis in Australia, including residents and visitors.
- Foster goodwill and mutual understanding among Bangladeshi Australians and other Australian nationals and communities.
- Promote Bangladeshi culture and the Bangla language in Australian society, and introduce people in Australia to the socio-economic aspects of Bangladesh.
- Promote and support activities of national significance to Bangladesh.
- Maintain effective communication and cooperation with associations and organizations with similar aims and objectives.
- Ensure that BAAC remains a non-profit and non-political organization.
- Carry out any other functions the association may deem appropriate occasionally.
