Founded in 2006, the Bangla Academy, Australia (BAA), a Sydney-based Bangladeshi community organization, is dedicated to promoting and fostering the Bangla language, culture, and heritage. It aims to inspire and educate budding Bangla speakers and individuals from non-Bangla-speaking backgrounds. BAA offers a continually evolving program of education that provides something new, exciting, and inspiring for all age groups to experience.
Activities
- Organizes public speaking, debate, math, art, and painting competitions.
- Assists the Bangladeshi community in need (job placement, medical assistance).
- Organizes clean-up events for Australia Day.
- Provides Justice for the Peace services.
- Provides disaster assistance in Bangladesh when needed.
- Provides a platform for emerging Bangladeshi artists and writers to develop their skills.
- Teaches Bangla to non-Bangla speakers.
- Works as a cultural vanguard of the Bangladeshi community in Australia, etc.
Programs
Bangla Academy Australia runs various programs to benefit the wider community. These programs are also open to volunteers who want to gain experience:
- Student Leadership: The Student Leadership program fosters leadership skills through community engagement and family involvement.
- My Language, My Freedom: International Mother Language Day (IMLD) celebrates all languages spoken in Australia, particularly minority and endangered languages.
- Bookshop: Sell a wide range of books in the Bangla language, including fiction, non-fiction, classics, and children’s books.
- Interpretation and Translation: The Bangla language is supported through various types of settings, including composition, publication, pamphlets, flyers, and booklets, as well as interpreting and translating services to facilitate communication with the broader community.
- Entrepreneurship & Innovation: Runs a multidisciplinary research program with a focus on entrepreneurship and innovation among Bangla and other language-speaking communities. The areas involved are photography, event management, video editing, ticketing, children supervision, public relations, website development, and security.
- Education & Migration: Bangla Academy Australia offers higher education and Migration support through MARA-registered consultants, who assist with visa applications and provide professional services.
Bangla Academy, Australia, also operates Bangla Academy International, a Facebook page aimed at promoting the Bangla language, culture, and heritage worldwide.
The Academy maintains networking branches in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, and Adelaide.
