The Danforth Islamic Center, a Bangladeshi-run mosque and Islamic center in Toronto, Canada, offers five daily prayer services, a weekly Friday prayer (Jumm’a) service, and organizes an annual Eid prayer. Additionally, the center provides basic Islamic education to Bangladeshi children. As a religious, non-profit, and charitable organization, Danforth Islamic Center was established in 2005 to serve the diverse community of Danforth and its surrounding towns, which is home to numerous Canadian families from multicultural backgrounds.
The major services provided by Danforth Islamic Center are:
- To establish congregational prayers for Muslims in the community
- To provide Islamic educational programs for adults and children
- Bring together the Islamic community for a variety of religious, social, and cultural events
- Promote the core Islamic values of peace, tolerance, mutual respect, and understanding among the wider community.
Every Sunday after Fajr prayer, Danforth Islamic Center hosts a free event called Tafsirul Qur’an. Anyone is welcome to attend, and refreshments are served after the discussion. The center also offers weekend school sessions on Saturdays and Sundays from 11:00 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. These sessions are separate for boys and girls. Occasionally, the center hosts lecture sessions for non-Muslims. Additionally, the center has summer school, workshops on Islamic topics such as Hajj, fasting, and zakat, Arabic classes for adults, educational camps, and excursions.
