The Muslim Foundation of America, Inc. (MFA) is a Bangladeshi Muslim community organization founded in 1987 in New York. It operates as a charitable, religious, social, and non-profit entity (DOS #1185755) with the aim of fostering unity and religious harmony among Muslims, while also promoting ethical and social standards as enunciated in Islam.
Objectives
- Promote understanding and cooperation among Muslims and with other interfaith communities.
- Clarify and demonstrate Islamic values and traditions.
- Solicit funds and contributions to organize the Muslim Community and hold the Annual Muslim Day Parade.
- Provide facilities and forums for fostering Islamic heritage and culture.
- Organize lectures, seminars, workshops, and cultural activities for religious knowledge dissemination.
Mission: United American Muslim Day Parade
For nearly two decades, the Muslim Foundation of America has annually sponsored the United American Muslim Day Parade in Manhattan, held on the last Sunday of September. The parade aims to unite diverse ethnic and religious groups, promote a better understanding of Islam, and establish interfaith cooperation. A Parade Fund-Raising Banquet is hosted each year to support the event.
Foundation Goals
- Support Masjids (Mosques), Islamic cultural centers, and healthcare facilities in New York.
- Support an Islamic Youth center for education and sports.
- Support the establishment of a Muslim High School.
- Support housing developments for Senior Citizens.
Membership
The MFA is not a membership-based organization. However, it plans to develop a core team of regular donors to secure a permanent financial base. These donors may be consulted on important matters but will not have voting rights or enforce opinions on the MFA’s objective policies.
Key Relationships & Support
- Muslim Organizations: The Muslim Foundation of America has received support from numerous Muslim leaders and groups, including MUNA, ICNA, ISNA, CAIR, CCIM, the American Society of Muslims, the Muslim community, the Arab Muslim American Federation, the American Muslim Alliance, and various Masajid in the tri-state area.
- Interfaith & Political Leaders: The foundation also collaborates with various interfaith and political leaders, such as the NYFD, NYC Parks Department, governors, mayors, borough presidents, councilpersons, senators, and congresspersons.
- Law Enforcement: The MFA maintains a close working relationship with the New York City Police Department and the Department of Corrections.
