Bangladesh Canada Association of Calgary (BCAOC) is a non-political, non-religious, and non-profit social organization of the Bangladeshi community living in Calgary, Canada. The specific purpose of the association is to help Bangladeshi and Bangladeshi Canadians living in the Calgary area overcome challenges by providing social, cultural, educational, and job-related information and support through active co-operation among community members in Calgary. The organization is run by an elected body of executive members (president, vice president, general secretary, treasurer, social secretary, cultural secretary, etc). Bangladesh Canada Association of Calgary only conducts all its written communications and meeting minutes in English. All verbal communications are carried out either in English or Bangla.
Aims of BCAOC
- Promote and preserve Bangladesh’s history, culture, and traditions in Canada.
- Foster better understanding between Bangladeshis and Canadians in general.
- Represent the interests of the Bangladeshi community at various levels of government and with other ethnic groups and organizations.
- Acquire and maintain necessary facilities to achieve the objectives of the Association.
Activities
- Social programs include picnics, parenting education, etc.
- Cultural programs include Pohela Boishakh (Bangla New Year), music, poetry recitation, and fashion shows.
- Sports programs include badminton, chess, etc.
- National events include Bangladesh’s Independence Day, Ekushey February, etc.
BCAOC also organizes other social and cultural events for the Bangladeshi community in Calgary, as they appear in high demand or popularity.
Membership
Membership is available to Bangladeshi-Canadians and permanent residents living in Alberta who are 18 or older. The membership fee is $10/year.
