Background:

Founded in 2012, the Sabrina Memorial Foundation started with a young woman’s dream to help mankind. Her name was Sabrina Salam and she was an aspiring woman, a caring mother, a loving sister and an adored daughter. She had devoted her life to helping others. When Sabrina unexpectedly left this world in 2011, her death shocked everyone as her dream of helping mankind went unfulfilled. In honor of Sabrina’s devotion to helping those in need, her family took it upon themselves to pursue her humanitarian causes to turn her dreams into a reality.

Before her untimely passing, Sabrina and some of the founding members of the Sabrina Memorial Foundation were helping people in Jabusha, Bangladesh when a cyclone hit in 2007. Natural disasters such as cyclones are very common in Bangladesh due its geographical location. Thus when the Cyclone Sidr hit on November 15, 2007, coastal cities were heavily damaged as approximately 3,447 lives were lost in Bangladesh. The village of Jabusha, which is close to the coast of the Bay of Bengal, was almost wiped out by the storm. Work by the Sabrina Memorial Foundation started here in this village as some of the organization’s founding members worked hand in hand with local villagers to help them recover after the massive storm by assisting them with rebuilding homes, schools, and livelihoods. Since then, the foundation has helped to build schools, a vocational training center, a storm shelter, and a health center in Jabusha. SMF is currently undertaking multiple other projects to help the less fortunate in other regions of Bangladesh.

In addition to helping the people in Bangladesh, the Sabrina Memorial Foundation in 2014 expanded its projects in Kenya.
