The Muslim Ummah of North America (MUNA) is a nationwide organization dedicated to social service and Dawah based on the Islamic faith. Muslim community members in Bangladesh created the organization to pursue Allah’s pleasure by enhancing human existence’s social, moral, and personal aspects. In 1990, it became a New York state corporation. Since then, it has expanded its operations to over 22 states.

MUNA unites Muslims in North America, promoting civic and socioreligious engagement. Through Dawah, social services, and community outreach, MUNA fosters understanding and collaboration within the Muslim community and beyond.

Mission

MUNA uplifts the Muslim community through comprehensive spiritual, educational, and social initiatives. Its mission is to establish a faith-centered community by educating individuals, engaging youth, supporting families, and serving society. MUNA envisions a united and empowered Ummah contributing to a just, inclusive America.

Vision

MUNA’s vision is to cultivate a dynamic, united Muslim Ummah that is spiritually grounded, socially active, and intellectually empowered. It envisions Muslims working together to build a just, inclusive society.

Programs & Activities

1. Youth and Family Programs

  • MUNA Youth: Producing ideal Muslims and educated leaders; weekly, monthly & yearly programs at chapter and sub‑chapter levels; youth leadership training. The youth division aims to produce “ideal Muslims” and educationally conscious leaders by engaging youth through regular programmes and social services.
  • Young Sisters of MUNA: Quran classes, study circles, Ramadan workshops & qiyam nights; mother–daughter events, hijab workshops; self‑defense classes, summer camps; dawah programs and hunger van projects. The Young Sisters department runs programs to help girls balance worldly life with preparation for the hereafter.
  • MUNA Children: Weekly/bi‑weekly halaqas; quizzes & Kahoot games; outdoor activities & Eid gatherings; talent shows; reading and creativity clubs; baking days; cultural activities like nasheed, drama, Quran recitation; social work and volunteer projects. The children’s programs emphasise proper Islamic teaching and include many activities aimed at fun and learning.
  • Family Development: This department offers parenting and marriage workshops, conflict resolution, youth‑parent communication, preparing couples for marriage, and supporting single parents and elders. It nurtures faith‑centred families through workshops and counselling and creates spaces for dialogue and mutual support.

2. Social and Humanitarian Services

  • Social Service: Food drives, disaster relief, refugee support, community outreach, seasonal assistance for families and the elderly, and an emphasis on social justice and unity. MUNA’s social service mission is to address the needs of vulnerable individuals through faith‑driven compassion and practical support.
  • Humanitarian Aid & Relief: Emergency food, shelter, medical aid, clean water during natural disasters, conflict, displacement, and poverty; long‑term recovery and resilience. The department provides timely humanitarian assistance and focuses on recovery and resilience to help communities rebuild.
  • Justice & Human Dignity: The department advocates for the poor and oppressed, cooperates with social justice movements, and raises awareness.
  • Research & Analysis: Collecting data via surveys and community feedback to understand social, educational, and spiritual needs; providing evidence‑based insights for decision‑making; combining analytical rigor with Islamic perspective. This division guides programs through evidence‑based insights and helps identify challenges and opportunities.

3. Dawah and Educational Initiatives

  • Dawah & Faith Awareness: Publishing translations, distributing Islamic literature, Tele Tafseer & Dars programmes; seminars, workshops, open houses; expansion to new areas; monthly group dawah; National Dawah Fortnight; gift boxes; interfaith dialogues; Seerat‑un‑Nabi programmes. The department’s mission is to spread basic Islamic knowledge among Muslims and introduce Islam to non‑Muslims through various activities, making dawah mandatory for all levels.
  • Education Department: This department encourages the study of the Qur’an and authentic hadith, helps students understand opportunities and challenges in family and society, organizes study forums, educational sessions, and camps, and spreads knowledge beyond MUNA. It fosters a clear understanding of Islam and provides educational forums and camps across chapters.
  • MUNA Academy: Structured learning programmes, leadership training and faith‑based curriculum for youth and educators; fosters Islamic identity, intellectual growth and civic responsibility. The academy nurtures knowledgeable, value‑driven individuals who lead purposefully.
  • Leadership Development: Training, mentorship, and real‑world experience to cultivate confident and value‑driven leaders; emphasises integrity, empathy, service, communication, critical thinking, and collaboration. Leadership programmes target youth and blend character development with practical skills.
  • Education Institution: Delivering high‑quality education combining academic excellence and moral values; inspiring curiosity, critical thinking, and ethical leadership; and providing supportive learning environments. This institution empowers individuals and builds compassionate communities through education beyond textbooks.
  • Publication & Book Service: Distributing authentic Islamic books for all ages; curating foundational texts and contemporary literature; bulk supplies to institutions and mosques. The service promotes Islamic knowledge and fosters a love for learning.

4. Communication, Media & Infrastructure

  • Communication, Media & Cultural: This department shapes and shares MUNA’s voice across social media, print, video, and public relations; preserves and promotes cultural heritage through events, storytelling, arts, and digital engagement; and strengthens unity and positive representation using media guided by Islamic values. It produces content that informs and inspires while promoting Islamic values and culture.
  • Finance Department: Manage finances with integrity and transparency; budgeting, accounting, reporting, and compliance aligned with mission and Islamic principles; maintain donor trust; adopt best practices; strategic planning and resource management. The finance team ensures financial operations are efficient and transparent and provides clear reports to stakeholders.
  • IT Department: Digital backbone of MUNA; providing website development, secure data management, digital event platforms, and content systems; integrating faith‑based values with modern technology; ensuring accessibility and growth. The IT department enhances communication, operations, and outreach by providing cutting‑edge technological solutions and bridging tradition with innovation.
  • Organization Secretary: Coordinating MUNA’s activities, promoting cooperation and harmony with other organizations; emphasises personal development through Islamic education and community involvement; ensures programs improve individuals, families, and society.
  • Office, Centers & Projects: MUNA centres nationwide serve as hubs for education, spiritual development, and social service. They host Quran classes, youth leadership training, family counselling, dawah activities, and charitable distributions. Projects range from disaster relief to educational camps.
