SUMMARY:Feminist Self Defense
DESCRIPTION:One in three women had experienced physical/sexual violence at some point in their lives in USA. To minimize to stop this\, Young Feminists Allies will organize a feminist self defense event in Manhattan\, New York. Feminist self-defense workshop\, which is quite different than traditional forms of martial arts. Most traditional self-defense programs\, focus on violence perpetrated by strangers. Feminist self-defense focuses on the culture of violence\, boundary setting\, and concrete tools (rooted in Brazilian jiu-jitsu) to prevent sexual violence. By teaching women to use all the tools available\, feminist self-defense is a powerful way to resist domination and the violence associated with it. \nThe effectiveness of feminist self defense goes beyond mere increased self-confidence and healthier body image. This training can significantly reduce probability of experiencing a violent encounter by teaching women how to confront controlling behaviors that could escalate from physical abuse to sexual violence. \nThe event is open to all women\, trans people and non gender-conforming folks. Generally there is a waiting list for the free tickets\, but event organizer can open them up for Bangladeshi women. Contact her if you need a space. \nInstructor: Rachel Piazza \nVenue \nNYC Parks Department\, Recreation Center 54\n348 East 54th Street\, New York\, NY 10022\n\nContact: \nJerin Arifa
