DESCRIPTION:Stop Rampal\, Save Bangladesh – Protest Rally at the UN to stop Rampal Coal-based Power Plant near the Sundarbans in Bangladesh. The protest rally is organized by Bangladeshi community living in New York City to draw more attention about this environmental issue and display disapproval of the Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina’s decision to continue with the controversial project. The event is to tell the PM that Bangladeshi community living in the USA are concerned about the project. \nRampal Power Station is a proposed 1320 megawatt coal-fired power station at Rampal administrative area. The location of plant is very close (only 14 kilometers/8.5 miles away) to world’s largest mangrove forest the Sundarbans which is an environmentally fragile area and a UNESCO world heritage site. Rampal Power Station is a collaboration between governments of Bangladesh and India. The station supposed to produce 1320 megawatt of energy to meet the ever growing demand of energy for Bangladesh. However\, many environmental groups fear that the project will cause irreparable damage to the livelihoods of two million inhabitants dependent on the Sundarbans.
